In dental implant treatment, precision and safety have always been core clinical goals. Traditional manual fabrication of surgical guides is often complex and time-consuming, with notable limitations in accuracy control, making it difficult to meet the modern implant surgery's millimeter-level precision requirements. However, with the maturation of digital dentistry and 3D printing technologies, the production of personalized, high-precision surgical guides has become a reality—demonstrating significant clinical value, especially in complex cases.
By implementing a fully digital workflow, clinicians can achieve greater control over the angle, depth, and position of dental implants, significantly enhancing treatment predictability and patient comfort.
But how does the 3D printing workflow for digital implant surgical guides actually work?
Let’s take a look at the process step by step:
1. Data Acquisition
Using an intraoral scanner, the dental practitioner captures detailed images of the patient's surface soft tissues and dentition structures. At the same time, cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) imaging provides comprehensive anatomical information about the jawbone and other key structures. These two sets of data are then aligned, or registered, to create a complete 3D model. This integrated model forms the basis for the precise design of the surgical guide.

2. Guide Design
The surgical guide is meticulously designed on the digital 3D model, with precise definition of key parameters such as implant position, angulation, and depth. This ensures optimal control and accuracy during the surgical procedure.
3. Slicing & Print Preparation
Using the UNIZ Dental software, the designed surgical guide model is processed and sliced. Support structures are strategically added to ensure successful printing.

4. High-Speed Printing
Before printing, ensure the build platform is clean and secure, the resin tank is free of any leftover material, and the printer firmware is up to date. Pour in the zSG Clear resin material designed for surgical guides. Once the sliced file is loaded, start the UBEE 3D printer to quickly and efficiently print the guide. The UBEE printer supports simultaneous high speed and high precision output, enabling fast and stable guide production.

5. Post-Processing
After printing, remove the build platform from the printer and use the UDetach tool to quickly detach the printed model. Place the model in the UWash 2.0 ultrasonic cleaning unit with isopropyl alcohol (IPA) or ethanol for 2–5 minutes to remove residual resin. After initial cleaning, remove the support structures and use a compressed air gun to blow dry the surface (optional: spray IPA first, then air dry) to ensure a clean finish.
Next, place the model in the UCure curing chamber for UV curing using Level 2 mode—1 minute on each side. After curing, use a dental bur to polish the areas where supports were attached, improving the smoothness of the edges and overall wearing comfort.

6. Clinical Application & Preoperative Verification
Before surgery, insert the metal guide sleeves into the printed guide and perform thorough sterilization. During surgery, the surgical guide, together with the guide sleeves, enables clinicians to accurately orient and securely place the implants, greatly improving both surgical efficiency and success rates.

In the fabrication of surgical guides, the UBEE dental 3D printer delivers outstanding performance. Whether for chairside instant printing or mass production in dental labs, it offers high adaptability and efficiency. UBEE greatly simplifies the traditionally complex fabrication workflow, transforming manual steps into a standardized digital process, making it easier for clinicians to design and manufacture surgical guides.
With this technology, the entire implant treatment process can be efficiently managed in-house, without relying on external labs, improving personalization and clinical control.
As digital standards in dentistry continue to evolve, UNIZ remains committed to algorithm optimization and material innovation, consistently enhancing precision, speed, and consistency across various dental applications. We look forward to empowering dental professionals with advanced treatment planning and clinical execution, delivering more reliable and high-quality implant restoration solutions for every patient.
